Hurricane Dorian caused an enormous amount of damage when it swept through the Bahamas. There were multiple people who lost their lives. However, what was largely ignored by the media was the fact that there were numerous pets who were left behind by their owners shortly before the storm hit. Many animals lovers quickly put together a plan to get these animals to safety in the wake of one of the most devastating storms that the Bahamas had ever experienced. The project was led by Big Dog Ranch Rescue. This is an organization that rescues animals and is based in West Palm Beach Florida.
The people who were overseeing the rescue project said they are very happy they are able to help these animals that were in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, they have only scratched the surface of the animals that need to be helped in the Bahamas. There are still many animals that are trapped in the debris of homes that were destroyed by the storm. Therefore, the organization is planning several more trips to the Bahamas to look for animals that survived the storm and need to be helped.
Big Dog Ranch Rescue will find the owners of the dogs they rescued and give the animals back. All of the animals that do not have an owner will be able to be adopted after they have gone through all of the necessary medical treatments to make sure they are ok. The devastation in the Bahamas is truly unbelievable. These people who rescue animals feel that it is very important that pets are never forgotten in the wake of disasters of this magnitude. There is no telling how many trapped dogs remain on the Bahamas. There is still a lot of debris that needs to be sifted through.
The people who own and operate Big Dog Ranch Rescue ask that you donate to an animal shelter or rescue facility in your area. These places need public donations in order to operate properly. They do not receive that much money from the local and federal government. All of the rescued animals are looked over by people who are highly trained. Any injuries, infections or malnutrition are dealt with. The animals will not be put up for adoption until they are given a clean bill of health. These people will not rest until they have saved as many dogs as possible.
