We are always on the hunt for products that make our lives easier while we go on adventures with our dogs. Whether we are backpacking a National Forest, Camping in a State Park, traveling to a five star hotel or just taking the pooches for a stroll we need products that are tough, and functional.

For the pet owner on the go we found a great solution for the travel water bowl. I have looked at many bowls on the market, and I find them sometimes being too small (our dogs are 60, 100, and 120 pounds), or they are big enough but are a pain to carry due to their size or weight. I found some I liked but they just wouldn’t hold water; literally – they leaked. Sometimes I find what I think is a great bowl but it is just downright ugly.

The bowl that solved all my issues hails from Australia and is made by a company called Didgeridoonas. For those that don’t know, a didgeridoo is a

wind instrument developed by Indigenous Australians of northern Australia at least 1,500 years ago. In Australia a down quilt or duvet is known as a doona, thus the company name (I really should find out what the two things have to do with one another). The bowl is called Doggies Waterhole.

This is what Didgeridoonas has to say about it:

No need to carry water containers for your dog anymore with this free-standing water bowl that rolls up tightly and clips to your dog’s collar. Made from an Oilskin outer fabric the bowl is completely waterproof and includes sturdy metal and leather fittings.

This is what we say about the Doggies Waterhole:

First of all, from my perspective, being a guy’s guy, a man’s man and all of the other stereotypical terms you can think of, this water bowl is just plain cool. The Doggies Waterhole automatically gives me the feeling that the dogs and I aren’t just walking around the neighborhood but we are off trekking through the outback. The oilskin just looks tough. Not only does it look tough, it is tough. Oilskin referred originally to a type of fabric – canvas with, literally, a skin of oil applied to it as waterproofing, often linseed oil. They are commonly known as ‘oilies.’ Old types of oilskin included: Sailcloth waterproofed with a thin layer of tar, or heavy cotton cloth waterproofed with linseed oil.

We wanted to make sure this oilskin canvas bowl would hold water, so we

filled it up and let it sit on the counter for a few hours. We were pleasantly surprised! The bowl was 100% waterproof. No leaks any where, not even a wet spot on any seam.

The Doggies Waterhole is fairly large for a travel bowl; it holds TWO LITERS of water with no problem. The large capacity is a great feature to have but like I said earlier, sometimes large bowls are a pain in the neck to carry because of their size and bulk. Not this one, it rolls up really small. As you can see in the photo it is just a little larger than a two ounce shot glass. You could carry it in a purse, coat pocket, side pocket of a backpack or just use the metal clip and attach it to a belt loop. The idea, of course, is to clip it to your dog’s collar so he can carry it. Your pooch will never know it’s there.

The Doggies Waterhole by Didgeridoonas is a winner. The dogs like it; it’s a tough, functional, large capacity bowl that rolls up into a very compact size for travel. Plus it just looks cool. Guys, even if you are walking your significant other’s dog that wears bows and has painted toenails, this bowl can make that pooch and you look cool.
