In our never ending quest to find you products that actually work and work well, we asked EZYDOG to help us out with an ongoing issue we have. The issue is multiple dog syndrome or MDS. The root cause of MDS is trying to walk our unruly pack of mutts. We have 4 dogs in our home. Their combined weight is around 310 pounds. They have enough pulling power to knock you off your feet.

Our biggest issue regarding MDS was finding a leash that could handle multiple dogs at once with few (if any) tangles and a leash that, when the dogs pull, doesn’t clamp down on your hand like a vice. I’m not sure how much torque our four create, but I know it has to be a lot, so that’s a really important feature.

EZYDOG kindly pointed us in the direction of their Cujo Leash. Cujo for those who are not old enough to remember or have not seen the movie was a lovable St. Bernard character created by Steven King. I say lovable up to the point where Cujo contracted rabies and went nuts, killing everyone in his path. In the movie he even started eating the family car to get to his final victims. Just the name of the leash gave us hope that it would control our unruly brood of canines.

Here is what EZYDOG says about the Cujo Leash Systems:

Cujo leashes are designed for the most aggressive pullers while offering unsurpassed comfort for even the casual walker. Each size offers a different amount of Shock Absorbing Stretch. The Cujo soft foam handle incorporates the EzyDog Pyramid Pull System, which stops the hand from being pinched and evenly distributes the pet’s load across the hand. This handle, with the shock absorbing properties of the leash, provides a perfect amount of control and comfort. Add a Standard Leash Extension for additional length, or add 2 extensions for dual tangle-free dog walking. Light reflective strands incorporated into the rope provide enhanced visibility at night. Handmade. Available in 7 colors.

The Cujo 25 inch leashes are built with 6 inches of Shock Absorbing Stretch. The tight, short stretch gives the owner the most Comfort and Control over the Medium to Large Dogs that Pull Hard!

The Cujo 40 inch leashes are built with 12 inches of Shock Absorbing Stretch. Slightly-less tight and longer stretch gives the owner the most Comfort and Control over the hard pulling Small Dog or the Medium and Large Dogs that do not pull.

Add a Standard Extension for additional length, or add 2 extensions for dual tangle-free dog walking!

Here is what we say about the Cujo Leash System:

2 on the leash

We have now used this leash as a single, double and yes, even with all 4 dogs. We have been using it since the summer of 2011. We are writing about it now because, here in the Metro Kansas City area, winter finally arrived with temperatures in the teens and a little snow and ice. We have used this leash now in all weather extremes, rain snow, ice, 100 plus degrees and zero degree temps. We even used this leash while allowing our dogs to swim in a river. The Cujo leash system is a winner in our book. That would equate to 16 paws up. Not bad huh?

What do we like about the leash?

1.  The leash itself: The leash is made from what I would call a water ski rope. Anyone who has been up on water skis before knows that the braided nylon rope automatically has a little “stretch” or give if you will. Add to that the Shock absorbing stretch that is put inside the rope makes this leash very effective. I will say when our two or more dogs are attached to it they stretch the leash to full extension.

2.  The Handle: The handle is the same concept as the handle on a water ski rope. Again if you have ever been on water skis you will understand what I am talking about. I mean if a water ski rope and handle can pull, (I will use me as an example), a 200 pound person out of the water and move them across the water at 35 plus miles on hour with out the rope and handle collapsing on the skier’s hand, crushing it in the process, this concept then is perfect for dogs who are a bit unruly on leash.

3.  No Tangles: The extensions are not really long enough for the dogs to get tangled up when walking. Now if you are like us and when you come to a stop your pooches won’t sit still. Instead they like to walk around you in circles, well then yes you will get tangled up. But that isn’t the fault of the leash. That is operator error. With a little practice even at a complete stop you can walk the dogs tangle free.

Testing the leash under water

Testing the leash under water

Wet weather performance: It works great! IT’S A SKI ROPE! The handle keeps its grip and the leash dries quickly.

Hot weather performance: Again, great grip. IT’S A SKI ROPE!

Cold weather performance: Handle keeps its grip and stays soft to the touch. The leash stays stretchy and pliable. If the leash gets wet and you are in freezing temperatures the leash will be icy. The great think about braided nylon is that all you have to do is bend it around and the ice falls off and the nylon stays undamaged. The only thing I noticed is that when I had warm gloves on (snow ski gloves) I had trouble fitting my whole hand in the handle. But with the material the handle is made out of I had zero grip issues holding on with 3 fingers and a thumb.

We opted for the 40 inch leash plus the extensions which are 24 inches, which when fully stretched with tension gives you a 6 foot leash. Like I said earlier, this leash is fantastic for walking multiple dogs at once. I now can walk with one hand free and one handle in the other. Well done EZYDOG!
