Leashes are required in some areas, including some designated wilderness areas, all developed campgrounds, picnic areas, and day-use areas.In most other areas of a National Forest, including trails, dogs are not required to be on a leash, but they should be under your control at all times. We recommend that you keep your dog on a leash when you are around other forest users, other dogs, or are in bear country. Dogs are not allowed to chase wildlife, except where permitted during hunting seasons.  All designated wilderness areas require dogs to be under control at all times.

The areas that require your dog to be on a leash include the following: Cache La Poudre, Comanche Peak, Collegiate Peaks, Eagles Nest, Fossil Ridge, Holy Cross, Hunter-Fryingpan, Indian Peaks, La Garita, Lizard Head, Lost Creek, Maroon Bells-Snowmass, Mt. Evans, Mt. Massive, Mt. Sneffels, Neota, Powderhorn, Ptmarigan Peak, Raggeds, Rawah, and Uncompahgre.

Boulder

Boulder Valley Ranch
These trails in the Boulder Valley Ranch area allow voice and sight control: Eagle, Degge, Cobalt, Mesa Resevoir, Sage and North Rim Connector trails. Dogs must be leashed on the Left Hand Trail and are prohibited off the trail. Dogs are prohibited north and west of the Foothills trail.

Chautauqua Area
The upper McClintock trail is closed to dogs, even dogs on leashes. Lower McClintock trail allows only leashed dogs. Other trails in the Chautauqua area allow voice and sight control.

East Boulder Dog Park

5660 Sioux Drive (near East Boulder Community Center), Boulder, Colorado
Fenced area for both large and small dogs. There is a concrete barrier in the lake that some dogs are able to climb.
Large area is about 2.5 acres.
Small area is about .25 acres.
There is limited water access to a small lake.
NOTE: Be careful as water quality can vary – guardians are reminded to pick up and remove pet excrement to assist with water quality issues.

Foothills Community Park Dog Park

800 Cherry Street, Boulder, Colorado
West of Broadway between Locust Avenue and Lee Hill Road
From Broadway, turn west on Violet, then right on 10th and left on Cherry St. The Dog Park is located at the north end of the park.
Two acre fenced park
Separate areas for both small and large dogs.
Dogs can be off leash in the Dog Park and do not need to be voice and sight trained.
Dogs must be on a leash in all other areas and adhere to Dog Park rules and regulations, which are also posted at the park.
The park is free and open from dawn to dusk. Parking is available at the park.

Howard Hueston Park Off-Leash Area – UNFENCED

34th Street & Oneal Parkway, Boulder, Colorado
Located on 34th Street, south of Iris Ave., east of 30th St.
Voice and Sight Control area is designated by yellow poles.
The remainder of the park is leash law.
The size of the Voice and Sight area is approximately 1.25 acres.

Mt. Sanitas Area
All trails in the Mt. Sanitas area allow voice and sight control. Mt. Sanitas, Sanitas Valley, Dakota Ridge and Hawthorn trails.

Valmont Dog Park

5275 Valmont Road, on the north side, Boulder, Colorado
Fenced area for both large and small dogs.
Large area is about 3 acres.
Small area is about .25 acres.
It is a temporary dog park as Valmont City Park is still being developed.
A water spigot is available seasonally.

Colorado Springs

Bear Creek Off Leash Area
21st St and W Rio Grande St., Colorado Springs, Colorado
The Dog Park encompasses approximately 25 acres and is fully fenced. Bear Creek runs along the south side.  Through fundraising efforts from El Paso County Parks and LOOP (Lovers of Off-leash Parks), a local citizen group, a Small Dog Area was created during the late Fall of 2005. The area is just under two acres and is adjacent to Bear Creek with steps and a handrail leading to the creek. It is completely fenced with two double-entry vestibules to protect small dogs from the larger ones. Different creek access along the creek – some deep, some shallow, some rocky. The best fun a dog could have…3/4 mile loop trail, plus lots of social trails, hills, downhills, areas to throw a ball, sit under a tree and listen to the babbling brook. Bear Creek Dog Park is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and the base of Pikes Peak with an elevation change of at least 100 feet going from the north boundary to the south boundary. The terrain provide dogs and their owners a variety of exercise options.
Amenities in the Bear Creek Dog Park include: 8 bag dispensers and 9 trash cans, 3 benches and several log resting places. The main trail is three quarters of a mile which makes a loop around the park Several social trails 4 access points into the park 2 double-entry vestibules into the Small Dog Area Donated ball dispenser Collection point for donated dispenser bags Information kiosk with two sides, one side for the Parks Department and one side for the park users 2 picnic tables New dog house for donated balls. A short trail set aside from the rest of Bear Creek as an off-leash dog park. Location: 21st Street. Directions: East on 21st Street, South of Hwy 24/W Cimmarron St. Drive up the large hill, at the light at the bottom turn right into the parking lot.

Cheyenne Meadows Dog Park
