Humboldt National Forest – Toiyabe National Forest - Pets are generally allowed in wilderness areas. However, you should recognize that they may be bothersome and dangerous to the wildlife in the area and sometimes to other visitors. As such, pets must be kept under your control at all times. In most instances relating to national forests, prohibitions will likely be posted on the entry signs. Inquire at the local ranger district offices for specific regulations. Pets must be restrained or on a leash at all times while in developed recreation areas.

Carson City

Ambrose Carson River Natural Area
The Ambrose Carson River Natural Area is located along the east side of Carson River and the west side of Deer Run Road.  This passive recreation area is jointly managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Carson City and offers dirt paths and access to the Carson River.

Blackwell’s Pond Park

Description:  Three-acre neighborhood park
Location:  North central Carson City corner of Northridge Drive and Spooner Drive in the Northridge Subdivision.
Amenities: Covered picnic shelter, Picnic tables, Benches, Playground equipment, Grass area, Natural wetlands area, No Restrooms

Carson River Park
Carson River Road at the Carson River
Description:  40-acre park area
Location:  Along the Carson River in eastern Carson City on the south side of Carson River Road across from Lloyd’s Bridge and Pinion Hills Drive.
Amenities: Picnic tables, Handicap accessible fishing pier, River access ramp for non-motorized watercraft, Decomposed granite walking paths, Trailhead parking lot, Enclosed portable toilets (April thru November)
Dogs are allowed off leash at all times.

Fuji Dog Park at Carson City Fairgrounds

601 Old Clear Creek Rd. Carson City, NV
The Carson City Fairgrounds and Fuji Park are situated in a beautiful natural setting with large trees and Clear Creek running through it.  Located next to the fairgrounds is Bodines Casino, and across the street is shopping at Costco.  The Carson City Farigrounds and Fuji Park are located in southern Carson City on the south side of Old Clear Creek Road just west of South US Hwy 395, and just south of the US Hwy 50 West interchange.

Carson City Fairgrounds – Amenities include a rodeo arena, grandstands, a 60-stall barn, a small open-air animal barn, animal wash racks, an announcers booth, and restrooms.  There also is an indoor Exhibit Hall with complete kitchen facilities and restrooms.  Beginning Tuesday, March 24, 2009, the arena will be open for drop-in horseback riding from 8:00 a.m. to dusk seven days a week, unless the arena is reserved for a special event or activity.

Fuji Park – This 14-acre park’s amenities include a playground area, benches, picnic tables, a covered picnic shelter with electrical outlets, and heated year-round restrooms.  Dogs are allowed off leash during all park hours except they must be on leash from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Urban Fishing Pond – A one-acre urban fishing pond is planned to be located in the southeast area of the property, adjacent to Clear Creek.  The pond will have in-flow and out-flow from Clear Creek and will be stocked with trout for urban fishing.  Construction is planned to begin in the late Spring of 2009 and the pond is expected to be open for visitors and fishing by the late Fall of 2009.

Description:  Large (7-acre) neighborhood park
Location:  Far west side of Carson City between Longview Way, Walterford Place, Bristol Place, and Thames Lane.
Amenities: Covered picnic shelter, Picnic tables, Benches, Playground equipment, Two horseshoe pits, 0.7-mile concrete walking path, Open turf areas, Kings Canyon Creek, Natural open space areas with great views of the Sierra Mountains.

Mayor’s Park

Amenities: Large open turf area, Picnic tables, 1/4 mile concrete walking trail, Overlook platforms with picnic facilities, Street parking
Dogs may be off leash except from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  During this two-hour period dogs must be on a leash.

Riverview Park / Korean War Veterans Memorial Park
600 Marsh Road
Located at the south end of Fifth Street at Marsh Road.
Riverview Park is a 109-acre open natural area that extends from the Korean War Veterans Memorial Park to the banks of the Carson River.  Amenities include dirt trails, a 1.6-mile exercise course, an additional .4-mile nature trail, and benches near the river.  Wild mustangs occassionally forage in the area.  Dogs are allowed off leash during all park hours but are not allowed in the wetland areas and must be under adequate control of their owners at all times.

Silver Saddle Ranch (Carson City/BLM)
The main entrance is located on Carson River Road.
A cooperative effort between the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Carson City to provide access to public land. Located south of Carson River Road, west of Carson River Park.
All natural trails and open space areas will allow dogs to be off leash at all times.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) completed a land exchange with Perma-Built Homes and the American Land Conservancy in September 1997, to transfer the private Silver Saddle Ranch into public ownership.  The ranch, located in the southeastern part of Carson City off Carson River Road, encompasses 702 acres that run along the east and west banks of the Carson River.  the ranch now connects public lands on Prison Hill and the Pine Nut Mountains.

Once proposed as a location for residential development, the ranch is considered a key piece of property by Carson City residents and the BLM for maintaining open space and recreational and educational opportunities while preserving part of the natural Carson River environment.

Silver Saddle Ranch is now open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Motorized vehicle access is restricted to designated roads.  A BLM caretaker lives on-site and closes the gates promptly at 5:00 p.m.

Sonoma Park

Location:  Central Carson City near Seeliger School east of Baker Drive on Sonoma Street.
Amenities: Playground equipment, Picnic tables, Benches, Large grass area
Dogs are allowed in the park with the following restrictions: Dogs are allowed off leash until 4:00 p.m. daily.  After 4:00 p.m. they must be on leash.
Dogs must be on leash whenever youth sports practices are being held in the park.

The sports complex includes 3 dog runs.
The new state-of-the-art Charlie Kellogg and Joe Zaher Sports complex is set on approximately 110 acres in the northwest part of the Las Vegas valley. The expansive regional park has 11 lighted soccer fields – seven are artificial grass and four are natural turf. It features a three-cell “dogs only” area, children’s play areas, shaded picnic shelters and a large walking/jogging path that surrounds the entire park. The complex is also home to the Amanda and Stacy Darling Memorial Tennis Center, the largest of its kind in the state of Nevada. It includes 23 tennis courts, including one main court with stadium seating for approximately 2800 spectators, a small pro shop, locker rooms and office space. The sports complex will be a huge draw for large tennis and soccer tournaments and is a wonderful addition to the surrounding area.
