When Paw Prints The Magazine started our travel department, Travel Tails, we had no idea that there would be so many places to go review and we decided we needed help. We reached out to our friends Jackie and Jeff Scheetz. Jackie and Jeff graciously accepted our request/offer to have them help out with our hotel reviews and it has been a match made in heaven!

Jeff and Jackie are the proud owners of an awesome, rescued dog, Towser, that got them into frisbee dog competitions. He is an amazing little guy – he won the 2011 Land of Oz Kansas State Disc Dog Championship, the 2010 and 2009 Missouri State Championship in the toss and fetch event (the first one before he was 2!), and have qualified for the world championships along with setting the world record in Women’s long distance! He is also a titled agility dog!

With Towser at the forefront of many of their travels we decided to add this department to our magazine, TOWSER TALK.

Towser Talk will feature the travels of Towser, Jackie and Jeff. In this section you can follow a true disc dog champion while they compete nation wide. You will read reviews on products, lodging and all things for canine athletes. Along with Towser’s journeys and competitions, you might even get to follow along with Jeff and Jackie for some fun stuff to do and places to go.

We hope you enjoy Towser Talk. If you have questions for Jeff, Jackie or Towser, feel free to shoot them an email to info@pawprintsthemagazine.com To visit Jeff’s website and read about his musical history, listen to his music and purchase his CD’s and merchandise visit www.jeffscheetz.com; to visit Towser’s site go to www.teamtowser.com.

Little House on the River

Towser Talk – Little House on the River, Chattanooga, TN

The end of September marks the end of the Disc Dog season for most parts of the country. It is also the time of year for the Skyhoundz Disc Dog World Championships that take place in Chattanooga, TN. This year Towser was qualified in several events that would have him performing from Tuesday through Sunday, so we decided the best thing would be to find a house instead of spending a week going in and out of a hotel room. Our search led us to “The Little House on the River”, a pet friendly property that overlooks the Tennessee River, and is just 15 minutes from downtown Chattanooga… Read more

Towser Talk – Ramada Louisville East, Shelbyville, KY

By Jeff Scheetz

One weekend in June we left Kansas City and headed for Shelbyville, Kentucky. The drive indeed wasn’t too bad, and as with any drive, having a nice hotel at the end of it makes it MUCH better. We were headed for a weekend event – the Kentucky State Disc Dog Championship on Saturday and the Skyhoundz Extreme Distance World Qualifier on Sunday. It was unfortunately about 97 degrees, so it was a bit uncomfortable on the field, but there were lots of kiddie pools for the dogs to soak in and lots of fans, so they fared better than we did! Our rest however came at the Ramada Louisville East in Shelbyville, KY… Read more

Towser Talk – The Marriott TownePlace Suites in Englewood, CO

By Jeff Scheetz

We pulled into Denver with Towser in tow for the UFO Major frisbee tournament on Saturday, and the much lauded Quadruped on Sunday. Two days of serious disc dogging competition (Saturday’s competition had 140 teams!!!). When you are doing two full days of dog sports you need a good place to unwind and re-charge at the end of the day. Wow! Did the Marriott TownePlace Suites in Englewood ever fit the bill! Read more

In order to get an invitation to the Skyhoundz disc dog world championships, you have to be among the top teams at a regional qualifier. The qualifier for the North Central region took place in New Castle, Indiana. Our hotel of choice while attending the event was the Raintree Inn just off interstate 70 in New Castle. Read More

Towser Talk – Travelodge in Gray Summit, MO

By Jeff Scheetz

This hot weekend in July brought us to the Travelodge Six Flags in Gray Summit, Missouri. We would be competing in disc dog events at the nearby Purina farms for the weekend. Gray Summit is located just 35 miles from St. Louis, and the Travelodge sits conveniently just off of I-44.

Our room was spacious with a King bed, nice little table and chairs, in-room safe, and a desk. The staff was friendly and check in was easy. Read More

Towser Talk – Wingate by Wyndham, Bentonville, AR

By Jeff Scheetz

With the SUV loaded with lots of gear, two people and one dog, we headed out early in the morning for Bentonville, AR to compete in the Bigwag Arkansas Disc Dog State Championship. While Bentonville may be best known as the home of Wal-Mart, it is also a real jewel in the Ozarks with a lot of green space and of course it’s close proximity to crystal clear Beaver Lake. Towser Talk: Tie me up, tie me down (with a seatbelt)

By Jeff Scheetz

When you have an active dog like Towser, the prospects of putting him in a vehicle and traveling are always a little daunting. Since we spoiled him as a puppy and let him roam around the Rav4 wherever he liked, it has been hard to explain to him that not only is that not safe for him – it’s not safe for any of us! He has fallen off the console and shifted the truck into park going down the interstate, and since he knows how to roll down the windows in the back, they have to always be locked or he is apt to jump out of a moving vehicle (which we learned the hard way as he jumped out of the truck at the airport once – fortunately we were just pulling out and not going fast, but we learned to never “trust” him roaming around again). My wife Jackie and I had a trip planned to the Denver area at the end of May so our dog, Towser, could compete in the Skyhoundz World Qualifier disc dog competition. Since the competition would only require us to be in Denver for a couple of days, we thought we’d take a little extra time in the Centennial State to … what else … spend some time in the mountains. Towser Talk: The Hotel Teatro, Denver, CO

By Jeff Scheetz and Towser (Photos by Jackie)

When my wife Jackie and I began making plans to travel to Denver at the end of May so our dog, Towser, could compete in the Skyhoundz World Qualifier disc dog competition we knew we’d require a pet-friendly hotel.

As we so often do, we went to PawPrintsTheMagazine.com to see what was listed in the “Pet Friendly Lodging” section. There were so many listed we had plenty from which to choose. We ultimately decided on the Hotel Teatro in downtown Denver. Read More
