Do you want to know how pet friendly a hotel is? This is the place for you!

Through our Travel Tails and Towser Talk departments we venture out to find you some great places to stay that not only accept pets as guests, but allow our teams to tell you just how pet friendly their hotels are.

When making a reservation with any pet friendly lodging, make sure and ask in advance if there are pet fees associated with your stay. Don’t assume Fido stays for free everywhere.  Many of the properties we visit have pet fees. Some fees are as minimal as $5.00 per night, some have been as high as $100.00 per night. Just because there is a pet fee involved does not mean that the property isn’t pet friendly. Remember, everyone that travels with a pet may not be as mindful of others’ property as you. The properties need to be able to accept pets without fear of losing money on them, after all, they are in business to make money. In doing so they provide us, the traveling pet owners with a valuable service that we should greatly appreciate.

There are several properties that charge nothing for you to bring your pet. Just remember plan in advance and ask the right questions, that way there are no surprises when you get to your destination.

To find a pet friendly hotel for your travels you can visit our Pet Friendly Lodging pages.

Towser Talk – Little House on the River, Chattanooga, TN

By Jeff  Scheetz

The end of September marks the end of the Disc Dog season for most parts of the country. It is also the time of year for the Skyhoundz Disc Dog World Championships that take place in Chattanooga, TN. This year Towser was qualified in several events that would have him performing from Tuesday through Sunday, so we decided the best thing would be to find a house instead of spending a week going in and out of a hotel room. Our search led us to “The Little House on the River”, a pet friendly property that overlooks the Tennessee River, and is just 15 minutes from downtown Chattanooga… Read more

Towser Talk – Holiday Inn Denver Lakewood
Colorado is the final destination of the season for the Quadruped long distance disc dog competition. This along with the CCC (Colorado Canine Challenge) had us heading west for the first weekend in August. With Littleton as our competition spot, the Denver area was to be home base for several days. We chose the Holiday Inn Denver Lakewood. This is a beautiful hotel with all the amenities you need and then some! The hotel has 38 designated “pet” rooms, and you should check with the hotel ahead of time as they usually have a pet fee and a limit on the size of dog they will accommodate. Michelle at the front desk was extremely helpful while checking in – no problems, and she was able to suggest the closest “green spot” for walking the dogs, as well as taking some time to answer questions about the nearest hike in the mountains (which we did take that very evening).

Towser Talk – Ramada Louisville East, Shelbyville, KY

By Jeff Scheetz

One weekend in June we left Kansas City and headed for Shelbyville, Kentucky. The drive indeed wasn’t too bad, and as with any drive, having a nice hotel at the end of it makes it MUCH better. We were headed for a weekend event – the Kentucky State Disc Dog Championship on Saturday and the Skyhoundz Extreme Distance World Qualifier on Sunday. It was unfortunately about 97 degrees, so it was a bit uncomfortable on the field, but there were lots of kiddie pools for the dogs to soak in and lots of fans, so they fared better than we did! Our rest however came at the Ramada Louisville East in Shelbyville, KY… Read more

By Jeff Scheetz

We pulled into Denver with Towser in tow for the UFO Major frisbee tournament on Saturday, and the much lauded Quadruped on Sunday. Two days of serious disc dogging competition (Saturday’s competition had 140 teams!!!). When you are doing two full days of dog sports you need a good place to unwind and re-charge at the end of the day. Wow! Did the Marriott TownePlace Suites in Englewood ever fit the bill! Read more

The Raintree Inn in Newcastle, INTowser Talk: The Raintree Inn in Newcastle, IN

In order to get an invitation to the Skyhoundz disc dog world championships, you have to be among the top teams at a regional qualifier. The qualifier for the North Central region took place in New Castle, Indiana. Our hotel of choice while attending the event was the Raintree Inn just off interstate 70 in New Castle. Read More

Travelodge in Gray Summit, MOTowser Talk: Travelodge in Gray Summit, MO

By Jeff Scheetz

This hot weekend in July brought us to the Travelodge Six Flags in Gray Summit, Missouri. We would be competing in disc dog events at the nearby Purina farms for the weekend. Gray Summit is located just 35 miles from St. Louis, and the Travelodge sits conveniently just off of I-44.

Our room was spacious with a King bed, nice little table and chairs, in-room safe, and a desk. The staff was friendly and check in was easy. Read More

Wingate by Wyndham ArkansasTowser Talk: Wingate by Wyndham, Bentonville, AR

By Jeff Scheetz

With the SUV loaded with lots of gear, two people and one dog, we headed out early in the morning for Bentonville, AR to compete in the Bigwag Arkansas Disc Dog State Championship. While Bentonville may be best known as the home of Wal-Mart, it is also a real jewel in the Ozarks with a lot of green space and of course it’s close proximity to crystal clear Beaver Lake. by Dale Smith

Travel Tails kept us close to home June 4th. This adventure would take us to Leawood, Kansas, a suburb on the Kansas side of the Kansas City Metro and about 8 miles from our house. It is an area we know all to well; the studio for our radio show is just a few blocks away. Read More

FloAnnTowser Talk: FloAnn’s Cottages, Estes Park, CO

By Jeff Scheetz and Towser (Photos by Jackie)

My wife Jackie and I had a trip planned to the Denver area at the end of May so our dog, Towser, could compete in the Skyhoundz World Qualifier disc dog competition. Since the competition would only require us to be in Denver for a couple of days, we thought we’d take a little extra time in the Centennial State to … what else … spend some time in the mountains. teatroTowser Talk: The Hotel Teatro, Denver, CO

By Jeff Scheetz and Towser (Photos by Jackie)

When my wife Jackie and I began making plans to travel to Denver at the end of May so our dog, Towser, could compete in the Skyhoundz World Qualifier disc dog competition we knew we’d require a pet-friendly hotel.

As we so often do, we went to PawPrintsTheMagazine.com to see what was listed in the “Pet Friendly Lodging” section. There were so many listed we had plenty from which to choose. We ultimately decided on the Hotel Teatro in downtown Denver. Read More
