Below the monthly, one-time events you’ll find the “Stuff That Happens Every Month.” These are events, get-togethers, mobile pet adoptions, classes, support groups, and other pet-related activities that happen at the same time and place every month. You many want to double check with the business or organization holding the event to make sure the information is up to date (sometimes, not often, they forget to let us know when their “stuff” changes).

Like the rest of our website, the calendar is updated frequently, so check back often for new “stuff” and updates to existing “stuff.”

Spay & Neuter Kansas City Low Cost Veterinary Care Center Open Friday’s & Saturday’s. Clinic Hours: Friday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm / Saturday from 9 to Noon. (open on Specific Saturdays, please call for dates). These clinics are primarily focused on preventative care:  Services include; Veterinary Exams, Heartworm Testing, Vaccinations, Parasite Control, Heartworm and Flea Prevention. This is a walk in clinic, no appointment necessary. Please call ahead for days of operation as these clinics are closed holiday weekends and during other special SNKC events. Pete & Mac’s offers Pet First Aid & CPR Classes. Be prepared for pet emergencies by taking a class taught by American Red Cross Certified Trainers. Once you complete the class you will be American Red Cross certified for pet First Aid & CPR. The class is held on the second Saturday of each month, lasts 4 hours and costs $40 (includes book). Rolling Acres Memorial Gardens for Pets sponsors a Pet Grief Recovery Group open to anyone grieving or trying to prepare for the death of an animal companion. The goal is to aid in the grief recovery process by allowing people to talk about the pain of this unique loss with others who understand how they feel. The Group meets at Rolling Acres Memorial Gardens for Pets on the second Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8:00 PM. For those mourning the loss of a pet, preparing for the loss of a pet or would like to help someone grieving the loss of a pet, there is a Pet Grief Support Group that meets on the first & third Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. in the Heritage Room of the Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 W. 47th St., KCMO. Heart of America Humane Society Pet Adoptions are held at the Ward Parkway Petsmart every Saturday from 11– 3; at the Olathe Petco (135th & Blackbob) on Saturdays from 12 – 3; cats only are available for adoption any time at the Overland Park Petco (95th & Quivira); at PETsMART in the Ward Parkway Shopping Center on the 2nd & 4th Saturday of the month from 11 – 3; and at the Overland Park PETsMART (115th & Metcalf) on Saturdays from 12 – 3.

Friends Of Parkville Animal Shelter Adoptions are held every Saturday at the Petco in NKC 2600 Burlington, N.K.C; MO.; (816)842-1810 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM for dogs & 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM for cats AND on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of each month at the Liberty PETsMART just west of I-35 & 152 Hwy. in Liberty, MO.; from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM for both dogs & cats. The Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter participates in an adoption event every Saturday at PETCO in Overland Park (95th & Quivira) from 12-3 (Dogs/Puppies & Cats/Kittens). They also feature cats-only on Sundays at PETsMART’s 115th & Metcalf location in Overland Park from 12:00 – 3:00 PM. KC Siamese Rescue Adoptions; held on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays of each month at the Lee’s Summit Petco 1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081; 816-246-0169 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM AND on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month at the North Kansas City Petco 2600 Burlington, N. Second Chance Pet Adoptions’ mobile adoptions are held at the Merriam PETsMART (I-35 at Johnson Drive). Cats are shown all week; appointments can be made during the week for cat adoptions. Cat and dog adoptions are every Saturday from 12:00-4:00 PM. You can also find the Mobile Pet Adoption Van at the Target parking lot; 169 Hwy and Barry Road in North Kansas City. Dog and cat adoptions are there every Saturday from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM (weather permitting).

HELP Humane Society Adoption Center at 311 Main St. in Belton is open every Saturday 12:00 – 6:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 – 5:00 PM. www.helppets.org or 816.331.5291.

LL Dog Rescue ADOPT-A-PETS on the first and third Saturday of every month at Petco on 75th & Metcalf (one block East of Metcalf on 75th St.) in Overland Park from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

Animals Best Friends has an Adopt-A-Pet every Saturday and Sunday at the Independence PetSmart from 12-4. Pet smart is located at 4010 So. Bolger Dr. (39th St. and 291 highway). Their phone # is 816-350-2100. Independence Shelter animals will be available for adoption. Cats can be seen all week at PetSmart. Come on out and find a forever friend!

“Pet Connection” – Tune in to Channel 2 on Time Warner Cable for a 10-minute program shot on location at the Sarah Lucito Animal Adoption Center. The program, hosted by 5th District at-large Councilwoman Becky Nace, is devoted to saving the lives of homeless and unwanted pets through pet adoption. Airs 12:05 p.m. on Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri., Sat., Sun.; 5:05 p.m. and 12:05 a.m. on Mon., Tues., Wed., Thurs.; 12:05 p.m. and 2:05 p.m. on Fri, Sat., Sun. Missouri House Rabbit Society’s BUNNY BRIEFINGS are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 3 PM – 5 PM at Hecker Animal Clinic, 7240 Wornall Road, KCMO. Educational/adoption event. Meet adoptable rabbits, have your questions answered about your pet rabbit. Free nail & hair trims. Items available for sale for you and your rabbit. For more information call 816-356-3900.

Safe Harbor Prison Dog Program Adoptions are held most Saturday’s at the PETsMART on Shawnee Mission Parkway at Lackman Road. For information on available dogs and adoption events, please visit www.safeharborprisondogs.com or call 913-634-5955

Furry Kids Refuge is at the Lee’s Summit Petco (50 Hwy and Chipman Rd) every Saturday from 11-3 with many wonderful rescued dogs and cats. Please come by and maybe give a homeless animal a new loving forever home! Please check our website for verification, www.furrykidsrefuge.org.

Dog Scouts of America local Troop 135 meets the first Monday of every month. Each meeting will include training tips and an exercise to practice. Meetings start at 7:00 pm and last one hour. Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society’s (L.A.W.S.) pet adoptions are held on the second Saturday of every month from 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. at the Leavenworth Animal Control Shelter 1720 S. 2nd Street, Leavenworth, KS 66048 (behind Price Chopper). Adoptions are also held at the Olathe, KS Petsmart (15255 W. 119th Street) most Saturdays with our LAWS foster animals.
