August 16, 2012 – After 2 weeks of Mother Nature unkind-ness, we were back on the air today. What did we talk about? Well, if you can deal with a pet’s behavior changes before they turn into big problems the bond between owner and pet will remain intact. Once that bond is broken, it can rarely be repaired and the pet often winds up in a shelter. Today, nationally recognized pet expert, Steve Dale talks to us about what to be looking for, some good options and an upcoming, FREE way to get some advice. Click here to listen

August 09, 2012 – Mother Nature had it out for us today. Weather-related power outage this time.

August 02, 2012 – Uggggghhhhh! The radio station lost power about 20 minutes into our show and it wasn’t regained before our hour was over. Back next week as usual. Sorry!

July 12, 2012 – Learning from another’s experience… Update on how our new pup is adjusting to his new home and a little challenge for everyone to understand their place and who’s testing who’s limits. Big announcement about a new dog park in our town and some conversation about some of the up and down sides to taking your dog to an off-leash dog park. It’s sort of like your kid going to the local playground. Sometimes, stuff happens. Click here to listen

July 05, 2012 – The heat is on throughout the country. We’re seeing record temperatures everywhere, but Fido still needs to go for a walk, right? So, how hot is too hot for your dogs feet? What are the options? We’ll tell you. Plus, have you considered what you’d do if you saw a dog (or a baby) stuck in a hot car somewhere? What are your options? What do the cops say? And, a local, municipal shelter sent just about every adoptable dog to a new home this week and we helped. Guess how. Click here to listen

June 28, 2012 – Today on Paw Prints Live radio show, Dr. Rowe from Aid Animal Hospital discussed tick diseases. June 14, 2012 – After a few recent news reports about pets that have been injured or killed by Mother Nature’s wrath, we thought we’d address a few of those things and discuss how to either avoid or deal with them if they should present themselves while you’re out and abou this summer with your pets… the three we discussed today: lightening, Africanized honey bees (not so common, but regular bees are), and snakes. Click here to listen

June 07, 2012 – Today we discussed our 7 year old, St. Bernard mix, Clyde. He was diagnosed this week with Hemangiosarcomas of the spleen and liver –  highly metastatic and malignant tumors in the blood vessels that arise from the the cells that line the interior surface of blood vessels. We have a big decision to make on his behalf, but we thought we’d tell our listeners what was going on and give them a bit of information on what made us take him to the vet… he had very nondescript symptoms, but something was just off with him. We also discussed our backyard camping adventure and why we pitched a tent to camp with our dogs right outside our back door. Plus some other interesting stuff about bomb sniffing dogs in Afghanistan. Click here to listen

May 17, 2012 – A mixed bag today… In case you didn’t know, over 20,000 years ago, humans won the evolutionary battle against Neanderthals and they just may have had some assistance in that from their CANINE best friends… And pet custody cases have been in the news lately and it seems that we probably shouldn’t find it so unusual as pet custody cases are actually increasing. Plus, would you be able to save your dog from a rabid mountain lion using just a skillet? A guy in Arizona did just that. And much more. Click here to listen

May 10, 2012 – Today’s show focused a great deal on the recent/latest/current Diamond pet food recalls. What brands are affected so far (Diamond has many), how to determine if the food you have at home has been recalled, how to properly dispose of recalled food. We also discussed how to best switch your pet to a new food with the least amount of gastrointestinal difficulty. Since recalled food must be eliminated immediately, there is no time for a gradual transition. There are things you can do that will make the switch less problematic. Plus other entertaining topics… Click here to listen

May 03, 2012 – Mixed bag today… Last weekend’s Bark for Life raised $6K! Dog receives bone marrow stem cells… seems to be working miracles after only 24 hours… really? It turns out that dogs have trouble with self control when their tired (sounds like the same thing that happens to little kids… and other humans). And, finally, a parakeet finds it’s way home because it could actually tell police his address… for real! Click here to listen

Be careful about the claims being made about some of those “all natural” flea/tick/mosquito products out there… and even some of those all natural options out there that are effective can have some nasty side effects that you may not know about. Click here to listen

April 05, 2012 – We had guests from the American Cancer Society to talk about the upcoming Bark for Life relay events that will hopefully raise a bunch of money for cancer research… we’d love for Paw Prints’ friends, readers and listeners to consider putting together a team!!! Or maybe your individual businesses will give it some thought. There are two dates… one in April and one in May. We also discusses the comfort our pets give when we go through an illness like cancer and how important it is to provide help for those that need it to take care of their pets during such a trying time. The American Cancer Society is considering the possibility of providing some of that help. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. Don’t wait until you face such a crisis, however. If you’re able, arrange for someone close to you to help care for your pets in your greatest time of need. That will eliminate a lot of stress as you and your family cope with the business of treatment and recovery. Click here to listen

You should never have to worry that Fido will bolt from your car. Click here to listen

March 22, 2012 – Want to know what DOESN’T WORK when it comes to flea and tick prevention? Some of the all natural stuff you’ve been considering (or bought) simply doesn’t work at all. It’s Animal Poison Prevention Week and we’re going over some of the seemingly harmless items in your home and yard that may be big, big problems for your pets. Did you know Botox and Viagra are being used by veterinarians to treat certain illnesses/conditions seen in family pets? What do those medications treat and how? We’ll tell you. Would you pay tens of thousands of dollars for a puppy just because the pup is related to the dog of a celebrity? Someone did just that! Find how much and who did what when you listen in. All that and more… Click here to listen

March 15, 2012 – Dr. John Rowe from Aid Animal Hospital was our co-host on the show today. March 08, 2012 – We had a lot to talk about on today’s show… Did you know dogs are capable of tricking humans? We thought that’s what one of ours has been doing, but studies say they can do it as successfully as humans. How many words do you think the average dog can learn? More than you think. Do you always want the newest, latest & greatest medication on the market given to your pet even though the tried and true has always worked just fine? There may be good reason to wait until veterinary medications have been on the market a while before they’re included in your pet’s medical care. Click here to listen

And, as always, we’re talking about some fun stuff, important stuff and a really cerebral trivia question. Click here to listen

February 16, 2012 – In addition to the most entertaining and weird miscellaneous topics we could come up with (the man shot because he confronted his neighbor about his dogs’ poop all over the neighborhood and the lady the took her dog to be grromed and discovered her dogs ears had been cut off and taped back on), Dr. Rowe from Aid Animal Hospital was on the air with us today to talk about worms… those nasty parasites that plague our pets. How they get worms, how to prevent them, how to treat them and whether or not our pets can pass them along to us. Perfect for the lunch hour. Click here to listen

February 09, 2012 – Today we had some fun while ranting about the stuff that bugs us. We can’t help it, sometimes we just have to let it all out. Click here to listen

January 26, 2012 – Some of you may have heard in the news lately about the Great Dane that got between his female owner and her abuser. The woman made the brave decision to leave her home, but only with her dog, as she knew leaving him put him in danger. Most shelters that protect women from domestic violence are not equipped to take pets, which often prevents women from escaping to a safe haven (as pets are also at risk). This particular scenario happened here in KC and the shelter she contacted, Rose Brooks Center, decided to make an exception and allowed the dog a safe haven as well. That decision led to another… they will no longer allow pets to be an obstacle for women that require a safe place to go when leaving their abuser. The Rose Brooks Center embarked on a path to create a specific shelter for their pets as well. Two representatives from the Rose Brooks Center were in the studio with us to discuss their decision and what makes it so important, their plans and how the community can help. Click here to listen

January 19, 2012 – Dr. John Rowe, owner of Aid Animal Hospital was on the air with us today. There is so much you don’t realize you don’t know about how to care for your pet’s teeth and there are serious consequences to your pets’ health. This is important information. Click here to listen

January 12, 2012 – Today we had the President of the KC Pet Project on the air with us for the entire hour to discuss the KCMO animal shelter. We’ve been looking forward to having KC Pet Project on the air and hope our listeners will take this opportunity to learn the facts about this exciting, but challenging time for KCMO pets. A bit about the happenings at our local city shelter – big changes are coming – hoping to have the new private organization in charge on next week’s show. Also, a little about he sacrifices made by animals in our country’s wars. The film “War Horse” got us researching the stats on horses killed in WWI… we owe 8 million of them a big thank you for giving their lives. Click here to listen

December 15, 2011 – Are you sure you know how to choose the “right” pet for your family? Dog? Cat? Rabbit? Fish? Today’s show focused on how to choose the right pet for your family and lifestyle. Also, in honor of the holiday gift-giving season and the inevitable “White Elephant” gift exchange we’ll all attend, we thought we’d explain where that whole idea originated. Here’s a hint… imgagine having an elephant as a pet, then imagine that you aren’t allowed to give it away. Click here to listen

October 20, 2011 – Today we had Dr. John Rowe from Aid Animal Hospital as our co-host. We talked about the different types of allergies pets have and how to handle them using both traditional veterinary medicine (antihistamines and cortisone when necessary, even allergy injections when warranted) and holistic methods, such as supplements and nutrition (herbals, amino acids, topical solutions, probiotics, local raw honey, accupuncture), some of which can even prevent allergies. He even told us what type of shampoo to use and what not to use to keep your pet free from the allergens that your pet’s coat constantly collects. We also discussed the tradgedy in Ohio yesterday where more than 40 exotic/wild animals (tigers, lions, bears, monkeys, wolves, etc.) were killed due to the actions of their owner. Dr. Rowe, along with B.J. Auch from Cedar Cove Feline Conservatory & Education Center explained why tranquilizing these animals was not an option and how a proper exotic animal care facility should be run so the animals are safe as well as the public. Click here to listen.

October 13, 2011 – We had a lot of fun today… A city is considering banning one particular breed of dog because a resident was bitten by an entirely different breed of dog. WHAT? Oh, and did you know that puppy mill breeding dogs suffer serious psychological damage that can last a lifetime – even after they leave the puppy mill? We knew it too, but now there is a study to make it official. Great input on our trivia question, too! Click here to listen

September 29, 2011 – A mixed bag today. Teaching our puppy the “leave it” command – it was literally a matter of life or death (he had it in for one of our cats). The current state of the KCMO animal shelter – who is and who is not going to be running it. So far, we only know that the city will NOT be.
